Drink Plenty of Water

Water plays multiple roles in the human body. More than half our body weight is water, and every cell requires it to function properly. Water is involved with nearly every bodily process and is the basis of all body fluids including perspiration, blood lymph, urine, and digestive juices.

Ample water ensures that our blood purification system (circulating through the kidneys) works properly. In addition water helps to regulate our body temperature , keeps food moving through the intestinal track; lubricates the body's joints and mucous membranes, and transports nutrients to all parts of the body.

It also provides minerals, helps to maintain muscle and skin tone, and flushes out waste material. for a average person, drinking two to three pints of clean, pure water a day is recommended. However, during illness- especially if a fever is present- more water is needed.

Hot weather and vigorous exercise or work also require an increase amount of water intake by body. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink water. Pure, clean, plain water is the best way to replace body fluids. Fruit juices, herbal non-diuretic teas, and vegetable juices are second best.

Alcohol and caffeinated drinks are not good because they have a diuretic action, causing the body to lose water nor are heavily sugared drinks and milk recommended, as they can increase the body's need for water.
